Privacy Policy

This explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We are the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect

When you sign up

• Your name, email address and cell number
• The school and class you choose to support
• The charity you choose
• The date you accepted these terms

When you scan a slip

• The transaction number and total on the slip
• The store, till and date printed on it
• A photograph of the slip is sent for reading, and is not stored afterwards

If you set up a child view

• A first name and a PIN that you choose

We ask for as little as possible about children — only enough for a child to see how their class is doing. We do not ask for a child's surname, date of birth, photograph or contact details, and a child cannot enter anything into the app.

Automatically

• Whether you use iPhone or Android, for notifications
• Basic error reports if something goes wrong

3. Why we use it

• To run the competition — adding your slips to the class total and working out who wins.
• To verify slips — checking each one against our till records so results are fair.
• To work out donations — calculating what goes to each charity.
• To contact you — verifying your email, resetting your password, and notifications you have switched on.
• To support you — answering questions and fixing problems you report.

4. Children's information

POPIA treats information about children with extra care. Where you set up a child view, you confirm you are that child's parent or guardian, or have their guardian's permission.

The name and PIN are used only to let a child see their class's progress. They are never used for marketing, never shared, and are deleted as soon as you remove the child view or delete your account.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only with:

• Google (Firebase) — hosting, accounts and the database. Data is stored in [CONFIRM REGION].
• Google Cloud Vision — reads the text on your slip photo.
• Expo — delivers push notifications.
• The school — only the class name and its total. Never your details.
• Anyone we are legally required to share it with.

Other people using the app can see class names and standings. They cannot see who you are, what you spent, or which slips you scanned.

6. How long we keep it

• Your account — while it is open, and [CONFIRM PERIOD] after you delete it.
• Slip records — kept after a competition ends so results can be checked and donations audited.
• Slip photographs — not kept. Only the numbers are stored.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to:

• tell you what we hold about you
• correct anything that is wrong
• delete your account and your information
• stop sending you notifications — you can also switch these off in the app
• explain anything in this policy

8. Keeping it safe

Information is stored on Google Firebase with access rules that let you see only your own details. Passwords are handled by Google and never visible to us or to the store. No system is perfect, but we take this seriously.

9. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and announce material changes in the app.
